Vaccination at the Valley - get your first dose saturday 19 june

The Royal Borough of Greenwich and Charlton Athletic Football Club are holding a one-day special vaccination event at Charlton Athletic Football Club on Saturday 19 June.

From 8am to 8pm, people over 40 can go to the Valley to get their first dose. There’s no need to book for this drop-in service.

The first 1,000 people to get vaccinated will receive a free ticket to a Charlton Athletic football game, with more prizes on the day!

With the Delta variant, increasing infections and a delay to the easing of restrictions, we need everyone to get vaccinated to beat this disease and get back to doing the things we love.

About the vaccine

The AstraZeneca vaccine will be on offer so anyone age 40 and above can just walk-in with no booking to receive a vaccination.

Please ensure an eight-week interval between your two doses (soon to move to four weeks).

If you have already booked a vaccination appointment, please continue with it. Or, if you wish to make use of the Valley offer, please cancel your appointment.

At The Valley

Please make your way by train, tube, bus, cycle or on foot to Charlton Athletic Football Club, The Valley, Floyd Rd, London, SE7 8BL. There is limited parking on site and parking restrictions in the local area.

Vaccinations will take place inside in the North Stand Fans Bar. You will be directed on arrival, with queuing around the pitch where you'll also be able to take selfies! Listen out for prize announcements.

Please adhere to social distancing guidelines including wear a face covering and maintain two metre distance at all times.

It’s an exciting opportunity for the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the NHS and the club to work together in turning the football stadium into a mass vaccination centre - a first for all partners. Hope to see you there!

Cllr Danny Thorpe, London Councils Executive member for Health and Care and Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich , said:

As the government has announced that restrictions will be extended due to increasing infections, we need everyone to get vaccinated to beat this disease and get back to doing the things we love. Getting vaccinated pitch-side at a famous football stadium will be a unique and memorable experience so please take advantage of this offer. It’s not too late to get vaccinated. We need you to help make sure this lockdown is the last.
Boroughs across London are leading similar local initiatives in a bid to get as many people vaccinated as possible and ensure a return to the freedoms we all miss.

Wayne Mumford, Charlton Athletic’s Commercial Director, said:

Charlton has a long history of excellent work in the local community and we’re pleased to be joining forces with the Royal Borough of Greenwich council and South East London Clinical Commissioning Group on this important activity as we all work towards a return to some sort of normality. As well as offering a free ticket to the first 1,000 vaccinated on Saturday, we’ll have plenty going on at The Valley. Anyone attending will able to go pitchside, take part in a variety of competitions and enjoy a full programme of content on our big screen.

Dr Krishna Subbarayan, GP and Governing Body Member NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group, said:

Getting vaccinated is the best way to keep people safe and to help us all return to our normal lives. If you haven’t had your first dose and are over 40 come along to this great event on Saturday.
