New funding available to help improve local children and young people's health

Are you a charity, community group or not-for-profit local organisation in Greenwich? The Southeast London ICB is offering grants of up to £2,000 to help improve local children and young people’s health.

The Southeast London Integrated Care Board (SEL ICB) will fund projects that work to increase awareness of vaccines and their benefits. We want to improve immunisation rates among those who have often been underserved by health services including:

  • Black Caribbean, Black African, Black British, biracial and multiracial groups
  • People experiencing poverty
  • People with learning disabilities and people with mental health illnesses
  • Children in looked after care
  • Children and young people and their parents/carers who face barriers to accessing healthcare, such as refugees, asylum seekers, people not registered with a GP, families who are transient and/ or who move around frequently (e.g. as a result of housing instability), young and single parents, women experiencing domestic violence

Childhood immunisation is vital in preventing serious illnesses and even death from vaccine-preventable diseases. Unfortunately, in Greenwich, immunisation rates have been declining. 2 out of 10 children are unvaccinated from measles, mumps, and rubella – highly contagious viruses that can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia, meningitis, and even death.

SEL ICB are offering ten voluntary, community, and social enterprise organisations the opportunity to work with us on this project. They will provide full support, including information on vaccines themselves, when and where they can be accessed, frequently asked questions including issues and concerns people raise, support with translated materials, and access to more detailed clinical information as appropriate. As part of the project, a member of your group/organisation will need to attend a webinar with a clinician.

You can use the funding for events, webinars, classes, Q&A sessions, community forums, producing materials, campaigns, outreach, and whatever else is effective in reaching your community.

To apply for the grant, organisations should complete a short application and answer a few questions about their project, including who their project aims to reach, how they plan to meet the aims, what they will deliver as part of the project, and what success would look like for their project. If your project is successful, and you would like to continue to work with them on this initiative, they can look to support you with additional resources and funding.
