Tet Lunar New Year Celebration With Greenwich Vietnamese Women’s Group

The Tet Lunar New Year celebration at Woolwich Community Centre offered a vibrant snapshot of culture, community and connection, as Greenwich Vietnamese Women’s Group welcomed Healthwatch Greenwich to join an afternoon filled with tradition, shared heritage and multigenerational joy.

Healthwatch Greenwich was delighted to attend the Tet Lunar New Year celebration at Woolwich Community Centre with the Greenwich Vietnamese Women’s Group.

The multi-generational event brought together women, families and elders to celebrate the Lunar New Year with fan dancing, cultural performances and the preparation and sharing of traditional Tet food – including bánh chưng / bánh tét (sticky rice cake). It was a joyful afternoon celebrating heritage, community and connection.

We have a longstanding relationship with the Greenwich Vietnamese Women’s Group, and this has included working together as part of our Raising Awareness of Abuse project, delivered in partnership with the Greenwich Safeguarding Adults Board (SAB). Through this work, we have supported conversations about recognising abuse, understanding rights, and knowing where to seek help; ensuring that safeguarding information is shared in ways that feel culturally relevant and accessible.

Community celebrations like Tet are an important reminder that safeguarding awareness is most effective when it is rooted in trust, relationships and respect for cultural traditions.

We would like to thank the community leaders for organising such a wonderful event, and the whole community for their warm welcome.
