Adult Social Care in Greenwich Rated ‘Good’ by CQC
The Care Quality Commission (CQC), England’s independent regulator for health and social care, has published its latest assessment of adult social care services in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The report found many people receiving support experienced compassionate care focused on dignity, independence and personal wellbeing.
Inspectors praised the way services helped people return home safely after hospital stays, with many residents needing less long-term support following rehabilitation. Staff turnover in Greenwich’s adult social care workforce was also found to be significantly lower than the national average, helping provide continuity for people receiving care.
Where services performed well
The report identified several areas of strong performance, including safeguarding, partnership working and preventative support designed to help people stay independent for longer. Community organisations and faith groups were recognised for helping connect people with local services and reducing isolation.
Inspectors also noted that many residents only needed to explain their circumstances once because information was effectively shared between health and care professionals. Assessments were described as person-centred, focusing on people’s strengths and goals rather than solely on their difficulties.
The findings build on an earlier Local Government Association review which highlighted positive experiences among residents and carers using services in Greenwich.
Areas still needing improvement
Despite the positive overall rating, the CQC said experiences were not consistent for everyone. Some unpaid carers reported difficulties accessing respite support, while some residents said information was not always available in accessible formats or languages.
Inspectors also heard concerns from autistic people, people with learning disabilities and those with mental health needs about limited local support options. Greenwich Council said work is underway to develop more services closer to home.
