Stress Awareness Month: April 2026.
Since 1992, Stress Awareness Month has highlighted the causes and consequences of stress, and this year’s theme, #BeTheChange, invites individuals to move from awareness to action. Rather than waiting for systems or workplaces to improve, the campaign emphasises personal agency, neuroplasticity and the power of human connection.
Nationally, approximately one in four workers report feeling unable to cope with workplace stress, a figure widely cited in occupational health literature and reflected in recent workforce surveys. This aligns with what many people in Greenwich tell Healthwatch Greenwich: long hours, financial pressures, caring responsibilities and insecure work are taking a toll. Local data from the Royal Greenwich Data Observatory shows rising economic pressures and fluctuating employment rates — factors known to heighten stress and anxiety.
The #BeTheChange theme encourages small, consistent actions: setting boundaries, taking breaks, checking in on colleagues, or seeking help early. These everyday choices can interrupt stress cycles and build resilience over time.
