The latest annual inpatient survey of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) found that patients had a ‘somewhat worse than expected’ experience for hospital admissions compared to most other trusts across the country.

The Adult Inpatient Survey looked at the experiences of 63,224 people, across 133 NHS trusts, who stayed at least one night in hospital during November 2022. Of the 1,250 people invited to participate from the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, only 361 did so.

LGT received ‘worse than expected’ ratings for hospital and ward, nurses, operations and procedures categories.  Likewise, ‘somewhat worse than expected’ ratings were given for doctors, care and treatment and respect and dignity categories among total 11 categories.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust did not receive better than expected scores (compared to other NHS Trusts) on any categories, but managed ‘about the same’ scores for four categories—leaving hospital, feedback on care, overall experience and long-term conditions.

Nationally, results of the annual survey show that people’s experiences of inpatient care have deteriorated since 2020. While results for 2022 remain generally consistent with 2021, the longer-term trend is downwards. The national survey also highlights growing frustration with waiting times and reveal that four in ten people scheduled for planned treatment said their health deteriorated while waiting to be admitted.
