Strengthening Community Wellbeing: Healthwatch Greenwich's Be Well Support in Action

Through our Be Well Support programme, Healthwatch Greenwich is empowering grassroots organisations with the tools, training, and connections they need to champion better mental wellbeing in their communities.

At Healthwatch Greenwich, we're proud to be playing an active role in supporting grassroots organisations to improve mental health and wellbeing in our borough.

Commissioned by Royal Borough of Greenwich Public Health, our Be Well Support programme is designed to equip local organisations with the resources, training, and connections they need to become Be Well organisations, championing better mental health for communities across Greenwich.

Since the launch of Be Well Support, we’ve welcomed seven dedicated organisations into the programme, including LGBT+ Thamesmead, the Chinese Women’s Association, Mama2Mama, Kids Fest, and Carers Social.

Each organisation brings unique strengths and a deep connection to their communities, from supporting mothers to access vital mental health support and basic care packages to connecting local LGBTQIA+ people in and around Thamesmead to enhance their wellbeing.

Tailored Support

We’ve taken a hands-on, responsive approach—meeting directly with each group to listen, learn, and understand where support would make the biggest difference. We’ve shaped practical, tailored solutions designed to build long-term sustainability and resilience. Here’s a snapshot of the support we’ve delivered so far:

  • Signposted to clear, accessible tech guidance to help groups resolve common issues and improve everyday digital confidence.
  • Provided expert resources to build or enhance websites, boosting each group’s visibility, accessibility, and online engagement.
  • Introduced user-friendly design and communication software, enabling groups to create high-quality content and strengthen their public voice.
  • Facilitated connections with key networks such as Metro GAVS and Live Well Greenwich, helping organisations tap into broader collaboration, peer learning, and shared resources.
  • Encouraged groups to review safeguarding processes for safe, robust practices across all activities.
  • Proactively supported organisations to apply for professional development opportunities.
  • Shared training events, workshops, and funding opportunities tailored to each group’s priorities,

Together, we’re not just meeting immediate needs—we’re laying the foundations for stronger, more sustainable community organisations across Greenwich.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to roll out a social media training toolkit, a practical guide to help organisations create meaningful online content and build stronger, more consistent online community engagement.

Celebrating the Power of Partnership

In March, Healthwatch Greenwich proudly took part in the latest Be Well Network meeting—a vibrant gathering of community champions, from long-established organisations to dynamic grassroots groups, all united in their commitment to improving mental wellbeing across the borough.

Among those present were Trinity Vineyard Church, English for Action, and Charlton Triangle Housing, alongside the growing family of Be Well Support organisations. The event served as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when diverse voices come together to tackle the challenges around mental health and wellbeing in Greenwich. The high-energy “organisation speed dating” session, sparked spontaneous connections, fresh ideas, and strengthened bonds between organisations. It was collaboration in action—quickfire conversations laying the groundwork for deeper, longer-term partnerships.

One of the most inspiring moments of the day came from Frazzled Cafe, who shared exciting plans to bring their peer-support model to Greenwich. Their safe, welcoming spaces, designed for people to connect, talk, and feel heard, promises to be a valuable addition to local mental health support.

The day closed with an energising Community Organising Training led by Citizens UK. Everyone left equipped with practical tools and fresh confidence to lead change in their own communities.

Looking ahead- Growing the Be Well Movement

As the Be Well Support programme continues to expand, we’ll be sharing new resources, amplifying community success stories, and championing the incredible work happening across our borough.

Together, we’re building a stronger, more resilient Greenwich, where mental wellbeing is everyone’s business.
