The Big Local Plan Community Event: A conversation to shape Royal Greenwich

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is inviting residents and people who work in the borough to take part in the Big Local Plan Community Event, an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of Greenwich.

On Saturday 7 February 2026, the Council will host a half-day community event focused on the big issues facing local communities and on identifying strategic priorities for the borough’s future. The event will provide space for open discussion, shared learning and community voices to directly influence long-term planning. Everyone who lives or works in Royal Greenwich is encouraged to get involved.

The event is being delivered by Something Collective, an independent community engagement organisation, on behalf of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Something Collective has been commissioned by the Council to facilitate the event.

What is a Local Plan?

Every local authority is required to have a Local Plan. It is the long-term blueprint for development, setting out where and how the borough should grow, including plans for housing, jobs and infrastructure. Once adopted, the Local Plan guides future development decisions, helps developers understand what is and is not permitted, and ensures growth happens in a way that benefits everyone.

What will the event cover?

Through interactive activities and facilitated discussions, participants will explore:

  • How the borough should grow
  • What types of homes and jobs are needed
  • What different neighbourhoods require
  • How the local environment can be protected and enhanced

Feedback gathered during the event will feed directly into the development of Royal Greenwich’s new Local Plan, helping to guide decisions for the next 15–20 years.

Who can take part?

Anyone who lives or works in the Royal Borough of Greenwich can register their interest. To ensure a wide range of perspectives, the Council aims to involve a diverse and representative mix of participants from across the borough. No specialist knowledge is required – lived experience of Greenwich is what matters most.

The event will be fully catered, and all materials will be provided. As a thank you for taking part, participants will receive free access to selected Greenwich activities.
